Social Insurance: America's Neglected Heritage and Contested Future

Book Talk: Authors Ted Marmor (Professor Emeritus, SOM, YLS, Political Science), Jerry Mashaw (YLS), and John Pakutka (The Crescent Group), with discussant Stephen Latham (Yale Center for Bioethics)

Thursday, November 14, 6:00-7:30pm in the Yale Law School Alumni Reading Room

Join Professors Marmor and Mashaw and their co-author John Pakutka as they discuss their new book on the history, politics, and philosophy of American social insurance programs. What has the country done to protect its citizens from life-changing but common risks such as death of a family breadwinner, ill health, or being born into a poor family? How do our current policies affect taxation, spending, and the economy, as well as prospects for individual lives? Hear the authors' perspectives, join in the conversation, and mingle over wine and cheese.
